Hi Miller

Do a hard reset.
http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01684768

Then uninstall battery driver from device manager after physically removing battery and powering on notebook with AC power alone. -->
In Device Manager, expand the Batteries section by clicking the little icon to the left of the word Batteries. Right-click Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall. Verify that that's what you want to do. Do not uninstall any other drivers.

Then power on system with battery inserted, go to BIOS setup --> reload BIOS to default. Save and continue to loading Windows.

See if has resolved.

If not, do a manual calibration of battery. Follow this web document:

Thank you for information.  I tried all the steps.  The battery meter works.  The battery is capped at 87% with an amber light plugged in and charging.  If I unplugged the power supply and plug the power supply in the light turns to white and if a few seconds it changes back to amber.

Hi Miller,

Thank you for getting back.

Hope you did the Manual calibration of the battery as I requested.

Still it is the same?

Did you test your battery via HP support assistant? - it's time to do that and see if storage capacity is reduced.

And do this test too: http://h20239.www2.hp.com/techcenter/battery/battery_ts.htm

I am sorry I just notice your message.  I have not visited the forum for a while and missed your reply.

The battery test shows about 75% constant there has bee no change the amber light is still present.
