I have the HP spectre 14 ef0000 which i admire but the pen that came with it in the box does not write well. Even just hovering the pen over the screen in one note, word etc starts displaying some shadow lines and when i write the whole thing becomes messy and lines running all over. How can i fix this?

Hi @Manchester3,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.
I see that you are facing an issue with the pen that came with your Laptop.
-Perform a power drain on your PC.
1) Unplug the power cord from the PC & wall.
2) Disconnect the power cable from the AC adapter if it is a detachable part and keep it aside.
3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.
4) Plug the power cord back into the AC adapter, then connect it to the wall and to the charging port on your PC.
5) Power on the PC and check if it boots into Windows now.
-Update the BIOS for your PC by clicking on the link.
Make sure you keep only the charger plugged in while updating the BIOS for your PC.
Click on the + sign next to BIOS and then download the file.
Open the file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.
-Install all the pending updates for the Windows operating system following the below steps.
Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and select Check for updates. If the upgrade is available for your device and you want to proceed, download and install it.
- If the issue still persists, refer to the below steps to further troubleshoot and let me know if that resolves the issue.
Calibrate the Pen:
- Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Tablet PC Settings. In the Tablet PC Settings window, you should see an option to calibrate the pen. Follow the instructions to calibrate it properly.
Check Pen Settings:
- Open the Pen & Windows Ink settings in Windows. Go to Settings > Devices > Pen & Windows Ink. Adjust the settings to see if it improves the writing performance.
Test on Different Applications:
- Try using the pen in different applications to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with a specific app or with the pen itself.
Reset the Pen:
- Some pens have a reset button or require you to remove and reinsert the battery. Check the pen's manual for any reset instructions.
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a great day ahead!

Thanks for the feedback and the directives provided. I have updated all the drivers and done accordingly as directed but still there is no improvement. I have the surface pro and tried the surface pen on the Hp Spectre x360 14 ef000000 screen on all the programs and it worked fine implying nothing to do with the laptop but the Hp 4096 Original Stylus Rechargeable Tilt Pen that came in the box. I have swapped the pen tips for the 2 spare tips in the box but problem still persists. Is there a way to reset the HP pen?
