Hello Team,
I have an Spectre x360 15 that has a black screen issue. It is running windows 11. The screen is black when I turn the laptop on but whenI plug the computer into an external monitor, I can use the external monitor fine but the screen is still black. Touch screen input is also fine but the screen remains black. I have turned on and off the computer, I have attempted to install new graphics drivers, I have attempted to reset BIOS and CMOS (I am not sure that this has been successful however. The external monitor does not show anything nor my laptop screen). There is no functionality loss except the screen will not turn on. I am writing this post with my laptop through my TV.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi @hrocks,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like a frustrating situation! Since the touchscreen and external monitor are working, but the internal display remains black, here are some steps you can try.
Check Brightness Settings: Sometimes, the brightness may be turned all the way down. Use the brightness function keys to see if you can adjust it.
Disconnect External Devices: Disconnect any external devices (like USB drives) to ensure they aren't causing conflicts.
Safe Mode: Try booting into Safe Mode. If the screen works in Safe Mode, it could indicate a software issue.
- To enter Safe Mode:
- Restart your laptop and press F8 or hold Shift and select Restart from the power menu to access Advanced Startup.
- Navigate to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
- Once it restarts, press 4 or F4 to enter Safe Mode.
Check Display Settings: While connected to the external monitor, right-click on the desktop and select "Display settings." Ensure the internal display is not disabled or set to "Second screen only."
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Power off the laptop.
- Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery (if removable).
- Hold down the power button for about 15 seconds.
- Reconnect everything and power it on.
Update or Rollback Drivers: If you installed new graphics drivers, consider rolling back to a previous version through Device Manager.
Hardware Diagnostics: Run hardware diagnostics if your HP Spectre has this feature. You can usually access it by pressing Esc at startup and selecting the diagnostics option.
Check for Physical Damage: Inspect the laptop screen and hinges for any physical damage that could affect the display.
If none of these steps work, it might be a hardware issue, such as a faulty display cable or screen itself.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
