My HP Spectre x360 has recently stopped connecting to my external monitor. It uses a USB-C to HDMI cable (USB-C on one end, HDMI on the other).
It detects the monitor as a "USB 2.0 Billboard" device and fails to display any image.
It is unlikely the problem is with the cable or monitor as I tested them both on my other laptop.
What can I do to troubleshoot?

Hello @jwithing,
It identifying it as a USB 2.0 Billboard device means that the DisplayPort Alternate Mode is not being properly configured.
First of all, a specific model name or product number would be appreciated. E.g. HP Spectre x360 - 13-ap0028ca or 5MT98UA#ABL
Information on how to find a laptop's model name or product number is detailed in this HP document. (Please do not post serial numbers on the HP Support Community. The difference between a product number and a serial number is that the product number contains a # sign)
You may need to update some drivers.
Could you also try projecting the display by connecting the laptop and the monitor before the laptop starts up?
Kind regards,
Eddy
