My HP spectre x360 convertible 2-in-1 Laptop 2023 f2013dx with ci7 13th gen doesn't work. I've tried just about anything that is possible, but nothing seems to work. The driver will just disappear and it'll randomly decide to reappear on it's own. I've struggled with this for 6 months now. Please provide guidance on this.

Hi @haekele,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I know how draining it is to chase a driver that vanishes and comes back. You’ve lived with this for months, that’s frustrating. We’ll try focused checks that fix the driver stack without long, risky changes.

Before we start, quick question: are you running Windows 11 and does the touchscreen driver disappear from Device Manager (or appear greyed/disabled)?

Meanwhile, you can follow these steps:

1) Check Device Manager and reveal hidden items

  • Press Win + X and open Device Manager.
  • Click View > Show hidden devices.
  • Expand Human Interface Devices and System devices.
  • If you see HID-compliant touch screen or I2C HID Device greyed out, right-click and Uninstall device (choose delete driver if shown).
  • Restart the PC so Windows can rescan and reinstall drivers automatically.
(Background: touchscreen is usually an I²C HID device; reinstalling from Device Manager forces Windows to re-add the I2C/HID stack.)

2) Reinstall I2C / HID and Intel Serial IO drivers (ordered)

  • After reboot, open Device Manager again.
  • Under System devices, look for Intel Serial IO I2C Controller (or AMD equivalent). If present, right-click > Uninstall device for any greyed or problematic entries.
  • Now scan for hardware changes (Action > Scan for hardware changes).
  • Let Windows Update supply the generic Microsoft I2C HID and HID drivers.
  • If Windows does not reinstall them, install the OEM I2C/serial-IO drivers from HP’s driver page for your exact Spectre SKU.

3) Use Windows Update and HP driver package

  • Open Settings > Windows Update and choose Check for updates; install all updates and reboot.
  • Download the full feature touchscreen/chipset drivers and any firmware from HP Support for your exact model (Spectre x360 16-f2013dx / SKU).
  • Install chipset / serial IO drivers first, then the touchscreen/I2C drivers, then reboot.
(HP packages often include the specific I2C/HID drivers Windows Update misses.)

4) Disable problematic auto driver tools and prevent driver rollbacks

  • Do NOT use third-party driver updaters (they cause conflicts).
  • After a working install, open Device Installation Settings and choose to Allow Windows to download driver software (or conversely, block automatic driver updates temporarily if Windows keeps installing a bad driver).
  • If a Windows Update keeps replacing a working driver, note the update and hide it via Show or hide updates troubleshooter.

5) Quick BIOS / firmware and power cycle

  • Install any BIOS/firmware updates HP provides for your model.
  • Do a power reset: shut down, unplug, hold power 20 seconds, reconnect and boot.
  • Enter BIOS (F10) and load defaults, save and exit.
(Hardware/firmware fixes can stop the I2C device from disappearing.)

I hope this helps.
