Half of screen is black

Hi,

1/4 of my screen is black.   1/4 is gray. 

I have run diagnostics for drivers, changed the display resolution to recommended settings, and linked up to an alternate screen.   The alternate screen is perfectly fine.  

Is this a hardware issue?

If so, how can I fix?

The correct display on the external monitor confirms this is not a video chip problem.

Instead, it indicates that this is a laptop screen problem -- and the screen would need to be replaced.
