Hi
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
I’m sorry you’re going through this; I understand the concern and don’t worry I’ll help you with this.
To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?
- What is your exact HP laptop model and operating system?
- Are you using the built-in touchpad, an external mouse, or both?
- Did this issue start suddenly, or after a software update, driver change, or accidental drop?
- Does the cursor movement happen on all surfaces, or only certain ones?
Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:
- Restart Your Laptop
- Sometimes a simple restart can resolve temporary glitches in the drivers or software.
- Check Touchpad Settings
- Go to Settings → Devices → Touchpad (or your laptop’s touchpad control panel).
- Ensure the touchpad is enabled and adjust sensitivity settings to see if that improves behavior.
- Update or Reinstall Drivers
- Open Device Manager → Mice and other pointing devices.
- Right-click your touchpad or external mouse → Update driver.
- If that doesn’t help, try uninstalling the driver and restarting the laptop so Windows reinstalls it automatically.
- Test External Mouse
- Disconnect any external mouse to see if the touchpad behaves normally.
- Alternatively, try a different external mouse to rule out hardware issues.
- Check for Surface or Interference Issues
- For wireless mice, replace batteries and avoid reflective or metallic surfaces that can affect tracking.
- Run Windows Troubleshooter
- Go to Settings → Update & Security → Troubleshoot → Additional troubleshooters → Hardware and Devices.
I hope this helps.
