HP omen ax202na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

20200919_101211.jpg

Good day.

I would like to thank any contributors in advance for their time and feedback.

The other day I bought an HP omen ax202na. I5 with a 1050 I believe.

Unfortunately the unit has a fault which I am pretty sure is the display. I am posting here looking for some feedback before I order a new one.

So the unit does display when connected to an external monitor. I have tried to disconnect the screen ribbon from the mobo in order to force the external display to work during post as well as using magnets to trick the unit to thinking the display is closed. All to no avail.

Never the less... The fact that it is displaying on an external monitor once loading win10 does lead me to believe the built in display is at fault. Other supporting evidence is there is visible burn in in the built in display with only a black screen and back light showing. Other times the display looks blotchy with lines and green'ish looking blotches. (tough to describe an replicate), but mostly it's just a black screen with visible burn in that looks a bit like a couple lines of characters in the top middle portion of the display, especially when the backlight is turned up. ( backlight still works)

Do you also think this points to an internal display issue?

I have opened up the display panel and removed the display to see it was a model: B156HAN04.1

Please see attached picture.

I have found a replacement, do you think all I have mentioned suggests a screen replacement is the likely solution?

I would honestly just use an external monitor permanently if I could find a way to get the external display to work during post and in the bios.

Very annoying as no solutions I have tried have worked.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Cheers!

@Mhartri

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Have you updated Graphics and Chipset drivers?
  • Have you checked the display in BIOS environment?

Let’s try these steps to resolve the problem:

I recommend you attempt to access the BIOS screen by tapping on F10 while the computer is restarting,

If you display does not respond in the BIOS screen which is outside windows, it would confirm a hardware failure.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hello thanks for your time good sir.

Yeah I couldn't access any display on an external monitor during post.

The external display would kick in after the OS loaded.

The replies took too long so I ordered a new screen, installed it and it has indeed fixed the issue... My hp omen bought second hand is good as new.

Paid 175 pounds for it with new screen and shipping so I'm very happy.

Did a burn test to test chip, battery and gpu all is strong.

Thanks for your time
