HP OMEN Laptop 17-cb1010 17 cb1010ur 15D49EA
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, guys.

TL;DR: I have only 60Hz refresh rate available for my 300Hz Notebook Display.

a couple of days ago I have bought a very expensive toy for myself:
HP OMEN Laptop 17-cb1010 17 cb1010ur 15D49EA

It is a new one, from a trusted official HP retail channel store.

the device was brand new and packed as new from the factory.

the box was sealed by HP tape, etc. so I am the first person who uses this device after the sale.

in particular, this toy is capable of a 300HZ display refresh rate

it is said so at the sticker which is glued in at the front side of the screen:

I have all my drivers installed properly, I have NO unknown devices in Device manager:

but unfortunately, I am able to select only 60 Hertz refresh rate from any refresh rate dropdown selector:

Also, I was unable to find any DISPLAY drivers either at HP support website or anywhere else on the Internet. that's why I have Generic PNP Monitor as Display driver.

probably this can be an issue?

I had my device shipped to me with pure DOS, and I have installed the latest Windows 10 PRO MSDN from ISO image, activated with separately bought license sticker with a key.

this is not a first nor 10th nor 1000th windows installation I have in my life, so I believe this is not a root cause 🙂

putting it here just to emphasize that I am unable to "reset OS to default state". it never had it 🙂

In all games, if I will enable Vsync I will see 60FPS top - it is obviously synced with a screen refresh rate of 60Hz.

probably I am not aware of how G-Sync works, and all is fine here.

if that so, I just want to be sure and have it confirmed.

Please help me enjoy 300Hz which I had paid for!

Thanks all of you guys for your attention and for help!

P.S. Attaching images in this Support forum works really badly, so I have uploaded them ty IMGUR.

so basically all is pretty simple.

standard Nvidia drivers from the Nvidia website do not work for this machine.

this machine requires "modified", "custom" drivers from HP themselves.
so you need to use HP STOCK DRIVER ONLY to have 300Hz support working.

here
https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/omen-17-cb1000-laptop-pc-series/32827283/model/3539...
you are able to get two versions of Display Driver:
26.21.14.4276 Rev.A
and latest:
27.21.14.5167 Rev.B which is actually 451.67, Release Date:Thu Jul 09, 2020.

already 2.5 month ago. https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/results/162105/

current latest Nvidia Driver is 456.38. which I am unable to use because 300Hz will not work.

yes, another "benefit" of having this "custom" driver from HP - they siply do not have GeForce Experience in it.

so you are paying hell of a money for very limited support - HP driver is outdated, and moreover, you are limited in features.

I have found the workaround for having GeForce Experience installed, but this is just stupid in 2020.

1. download "custom" HP Nvidia drivers PACK
2. download latest Nvidia official drivers PACK

3. install latest Nvidia drivers PACK

4. reboot the system

5. open Prongams and Features

6. look for Nvidia Graphics Driver XXX.xx, select it
7. press Uninstall
8. confirm uninstall, wait until finished
9. reboot the system
10. install "custom" HP Nvidia drivers PACK
PROFIT: you have outdated drivers from HP with latest software features from Nvidia.
I am unable to believe that I have spent ~2500$ on this device and doing all of these.

this is just stupid.

it is not supposed to work like that.

disappointed in HP.

ok, so now I have terrible flickering across all my apps.
including task manager and just bare Windows Explorer.
so probably I need to remove all graphics drivers and install JUST "custom" HP driver without Nvidia GeForce Experience....

@dvsx86

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are unable to set the refresh rate to 300Hz.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I recommend you update the BIOS and the graphics driver from the below link and check whether the issue is resolved.

BIOS: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp106001-106500/sp106128.exe

Graphics: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp106001-106500/sp106175.exe

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

thanks a lot, but I have already solved the problem myself. yes, HP driver did work.

I just did not expect that  Standard Nvidia drivers will not work as expected for HP machine.
I already updated my BIOS to the latest one.

but it turned out that my device was also malfunction.
https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/Flickering-screen-at-HP-OMEN-Laptop-1...

and after a week of owning it, I must bring it to the service center for repairs. an wait for 45 days for repair.
because I deliberately ordered this very expensive model for me, and the reseller refused to take it back and solve the problem with HP by themselves. because there is no way they will be able to sell it in an opened, a little bit used state after repairs.
this is THE LAST HP product which I will buy or suggest to buy.

yesterday I have received a call from the service center. they said that compensation papers are ready, and I can get them.

today morning I got the papers.

The next step is the returning of the money at the seller's place and ordering another notebook.

Farewell, HP.
That was a bad experience with you, hope we don't meet in the future.
