In terms of help from HP, you are in bad shape -- because the HP warranty specifically excludes coverage for Accidental Damage -- which is specifically what you did. You would have to pay the entire cost of shipping, disassembly, replacing the screen and any damaged components, reassembly, and return shipping to you.
You should check with Costco as they might provide damage coverage that will help you.
