Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
- Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
- Have you made any hardware/software changes?
- Did you make any changes on the settings of your PC prior to the issue?
- When was the last time it worked fine?
- Are you getting error message or code while accessing the webcam?
Keep me posted for further assistance.

- Did this happen after a recent window or software update? No
- Have you made any hardware/software changes? No
- Did you make any changes on the settings of your PC prior to the issue? No
- When was the last time it worked fine? about 12 hours before it stopped working
- Are you getting error message or code while accessing the webcam? I'm only getting the error I listed in the subject
SInce the battery is internal, I could not remove it in order to perform a power reset, I let the battery run down to the point that the laptop shut itself down. When I booted up, the camera started working.
The question is why did it stop working in the first place. It was working one day w/o issues. I slept the system overnight with power attached. The next morning, it stopped working without any changes done to the system whatsoever.

Hello,
I have the same problem with an elitebook X2 G1 1012. Imaging device doesn't even show up in device manager.
This seems to be a recurring probem related to Windows 10 updates. I bough HP for professional use and very dissapointed not geting any help on such a problem : having an hybrid pc without front camera is somehow quite unusefull.
Could you please provice help on this topic ?
Thanks,
Barth

Thank you for posting back.
To get the answer to this question, there are several reasons that could cause issue such as inappropriate shutdown or windows.
Hard Reset: Follow steps from the link: https://hp.care/2GnkMa8. (do not skip any troubleshooting steps even if you feel steps are repeating)
BIOS default:
- Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
- Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
- On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
- Press F10 to Save and Exit.
- Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
- Follow the prompts to restart your computer.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

@Sinisaj Check the anti-virus program settings & ensure it isn't blocking the camera and the same should resolve the issue, if this doesn't help, try the below steps:
here's a few steps to resolve the issue, start with checking for the webcam kill switch (if available on your model, if not: click here & follow the steps) and ensure its turned on,
That said, If your webcam has stopped working after installing a new update, you should uninstall the update and roll back to the older version. You will have to open Device Manager > right-click on the device > select Properties > switch to Driver tab > click on Roll Back Driver button > select Yes on the next window. After that, you need to restart your PC to check whether it is working.
If that doesn't work or there were no updates before the issue occurred, you might need to uninstall the webcam driver.
To do this, open Device Manager > right-click on the device > select Properties > switch to Driver tab > click on Uninstall Device button.
Restart your computer and then open Device Manager again and click on Action > Scan for hardware changes. (this would automatically reinstall the best drivers for it)
Once done, I suggest you install all the latest pending Windows updates as below and check if it helps.
- Go to “settings” and click on “update and security”.
- Under tab “Windows update”, click on the icon “check for updates”.
- Then once you find the pending updates install it and check.
