HP Notebook 15ay109na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I boot up my laptop but after a few minutes the left click stops working and I am unable to click. The trackpad still functions and I can move the mouse. I am also able to right click and navigate the OS using the keyboard, but it will not left click whether I tap the trackpad or use the left click physical button.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,  I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:
You could try changing the way the control zone touchpad works, using the below steps:

  1. On the Start screen, type control panel, then click Control Panel from the list of results.

  2. Click the View by drop-down menu, and select large icons.

  3. Click HP Control Zone.

  4. Remove the checkmark next to Enable Edge Swipes, then click OK.

The left and right control zones now accept right-click and left-click actions.
For more details, click here  Now check if the issue gets fixed. If it continues, perform the steps mentioned below.

To install the Synaptics drivers please try these steps:

  • Right-Click on start button> click device manager> expand Mice and other pointing devices>then select the touchpad drivers and right-click on it and uninstall the Synaptics touch drivers. Then check the box delete the software for this device.
  • Now restart the computer. Then install the bios, chipset and touchpad Synaptics drivers from this link: http://hp.care/2syreDe and select the country and type the product# of the notebook. Then follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Please check if this fixes the issue.

For further assistance please perform all the relevant steps from this link: http://hp.care/2EV3UHY (HP Notebook PCs - Using the TouchPad or ClickPad (Windows 10)
