HP Envy
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

So the screen was cracked on my HP Envy Notebook. A touch-screen. I took the functioning laptop to the local computer repair place and they returned it four days later saying the cost of repairing the screen wasn't worth it. I asked if I could attach a external monitor and still use it and was assured that I could do this. When I arrived home, after buying a monitor, the laptop would not power on. Nothing, zilch, not even a beep. I took it back to the computer repair store and a week later was told that due to the screen being broken, "the display cable shorted out the motherboard". It was working when I brough it in, it was a door-stop when I got it back. My question is, is it possible that, due to a cracked screen, "the display cable shorted out the motherboard"?

Thank you for your responses
