Laptop screen total breakdown

Anyone else have any luck in finding who to contact for a laptop that's 2 years old, past the year warranty, but screen completely broken down due to the poorly constructed hinges on laptop.  Screen literally came apart from the back.  My laptop was treated well and for an $800 product, am disgusted that it was not worth fixing, as the cost was the same as purchasing a different brand of laptop.  I have read that there have been other complaints in regards to the poorly designed hinges.  How does HP get away with this and then have the audacity to charge for repairs?
