Missing Web Cam drivers
03-20-2021 08:02 AM

Hello
I have recently acquired a HP Spectre x360 - 15t-df100, where I am having problems with the Web Cam.
The camera does not show up in Device Manager at all. I have reinstalled Windows 10 without any changes regarding the camera in Device Manager. I am familiar with the 'kill switch' right hand side of the computer. I have tried almost every recommendation from various inter forums without any change. The computer still responds ‘no camera installed’.
As I se the situation it is either missing drivers or a malfunction in the installed Web Cam.
I have bought the computer in a used condition, so I do not know if the Web Cam has ever worked. I do not know if the updated version of Windows 10 will have the right driver as build in drivers, therefor I have been trying to locate possible web cam drivers for the camera to be installed, but without any success.
Therefore my question is, dose anybody know about drives for the web cam in the Spectre model mentioned and where to download these drivers.
Regards
Siqas

Hi:
The webcam is USB powered and needs no additional drivers.
What I recommend you do is to use the HP cloud recovery tool that will create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10 the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.
Here is an info link for how to use that utility...
HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool (Windows 10, 7) | HP® Customer Support
That way you can be assured that your operating system and software is in the notebook's 'out of the box' condition.
If the webcam still doesn't work, most likely it is a hardware issue.
Unfortunately, many HP Spectre X360 notebook models are known for motherboard issues, and if your notebook's motherboard was replaced, it is possible the USB cable was not reconnected to either the webcam or the motherboard.
I don't know if yours is one of those, but it is possible.

Hi Poul
Thank you for your suggestion; I have just completed a full restore operation inclusive a Windows 10 update, unfortunately the restore excercise did not work out, I still have no camera in the device manager . I am affraid, I am facing a hardware defect in either the camera or the motherboard, as I have checked for loose cable connections inside the computer.
