I connected an external display via USB-c to my HP Spectre x360. When I did this, and all subsequent times I have connected this display, my laptop's screen briefly goes black for about a second (also, if there is a video-Netflix, Youtube, etc the audio pauses as well). The problem is that ever since I connected that external display, every time I plug my laptop in to charge-also via USB-c-the same thing happens with my screen and any audio pausing for about one second, and this also happens whenever I unplug the charger. It is completely fine after that second; there are no lasting issues beyond that one second. It seems every time I plug in/out something in either USB-c port it does this, except if I connect my USB-c to lightning to charge my phone. It is just incredibly annoying that my screen goes black every time I plug in and unplug the charger. Anyone have the same issue and/or know a fix? Thank you!

Hi @Bworell,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like there may be a power management issue or conflict occurring when you connect or disconnect devices via USB-C on your HP Spectre x360. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue.
- Update Drivers: Ensure that all drivers for your laptop and external display are up to date. Sometimes outdated drivers can cause compatibility issues.
- BIOS Update: Check if there are any BIOS updates available for your laptop on the HP support website. BIOS updates can sometimes fix power management issues.
- Power Settings: Adjust the power settings on your laptop. Go to Control Panel > Power Options and try different power plans to see if it makes any difference.
- USB-C Port Configuration: Check if there are any specific settings related to the USB-C ports in your laptop's BIOS or device settings. There may be an option to adjust power delivery or behavior.
- USB-C Cable and Adapter: Try using a different USB-C cable and adapter to connect your external display and charger. Faulty cables or adapters can sometimes cause unexpected behavior.
- Disable USB Selective Suspend: In the Power Options menu, there's an advanced power setting called "USB selective suspend setting." Try disabling this setting to see if it helps.
- Check for Firmware Updates: Some USB-C devices require firmware updates for proper functionality. Check if there are any firmware updates available for your external display or any other USB-C devices you're using.
By systematically trying these steps, you should be able to narrow down the cause of the issue and hopefully resolve it.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi Alden4, unfortunately none of those steps worked. I had already tried several of them (updating BIOS, drivers). I have also used different USB-C connectors; all of them do the same black screen thing. None of two chargers nor other USB-C to HDMI cords did the black screen thing prior to using this one connector that started the problem. I appreciate the help!
