I have looked into your issue about your HP Notebook and mouse not working correctly. Here is a document on how to troubleshoot the mouse missing cursor.
If you will go to the section on Opening the TouchPad or ClickPad properties page in Windows 8 and Reset Devices (on the bottom), it should help resolve the issue.
