Troubleshooting black screen issues on HP Notebooks: Click here to view the instructions!
HP Recommended

I recently got my HP Spectre x360 14. I got a pen with it in the box. It seems to be the MPP 2.0 Rechargeable one. I can't find this product or any tutorials on how to connect it to my laptop. I can't even tell if the pen is on or not. According to the documentation, it is fully charged but there are no other instructions on how to turn it on or how to pair it to my laptop. The fixes online are mainly for other pens but I can't find anything for this one specifically as it doesn't have an eraser button on top as well. Does anyone have any solutions?

Welcome to the HP Community --

Your computer's Service Guide will perhaps list the compatible pen model.

Look for the guide in the computer's support website:

 HP Product Home

Open Category Setup and User Guides

Enter the device type and model name of your HP product

Next,

Look for Maintenance and Service Guide -- actual name of document might vary

About the Pen...

At the Store:

HP Rechargeable MPP 2.0 Tilt Pen

Apparently the top blinks if the pen needs to be charged.

How-to Document:

HP PCs - Setting up and using the HP Tilt Pen

Next,

HP Pen Control – Executable / App

Download / Save / Install

Installation Package

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp82001-82500/sp82491.exe

Open File Explorer

Navigate to the folder where file is saved, likely Downloads

Right-Click on the downloaded sp* installation file > Select: Run as Administrator

or

Download and execute / Install (from Browser)

The installation is completed quickly and is gone from the screen.

There is no wrapper, for example, there is no pop-up window to ask the user whether to add the installed program to the Desktop (make a shortcut).

Open File Explorer

Open the installed software folder

C:\Program Files (x86)\ELAN\HP Pen Control

Find the program:

HP Pen Control.exe

Double-Left-Click opens the app in the Taskbar

Click on app in Taskbar to open / move app to screen

Right-Click opens the menus

Pin to Start > More options > Pin to taskbar / Send to Desktop (shortcut).

Example - HP Pen Control – ELAN

HP_Pen_Control_ELAN_2HP_Pen_Control_ELAN_2
