My camera is blacking out. I don't know what to do to fix it

When I go to use my webcam, it freezes up and then goes black but pops back up and goes black again. it just continues to do so till i just exit out of it. i tried to take a picture with the cam and it says it's unable to capture the photo. please help i need the cam for work.
