Hi @O4AITACHI,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that you tried changing from 144Hz from 60Hz and your laptop screen distorting or going half‑black. Since it worked before and stopped after your warranty expired, it suggests either the display panel or cable has degraded or the graphics driver/firmware update introduced instability.

I would request you to please follow the steps:

External Monitor Test

  • Connect an external monitor that supports 144Hz via HDMI or DisplayPort.
  • If the external monitor runs fine at 144Hz, the issue is with the internal laptop panel/cable.
  • If the external monitor also fails, it’s a GPU/driver issue.

Windows Display Settings

  • Right‑click desktop → Display Settings → Advanced Display Settings.
  • Under “Choose a refresh rate,” test 120Hz or 100Hz to see if distortion disappears.
  • If only 60Hz works, the issue is likely hardware.

Update Graphics Drivers

  • For NVIDIA: open GeForce Experience → Drivers → Check for updates.
  • For AMD: use AMD Adrenalin Software → Updates.
  • Install the latest drivers, then restart your laptop.

Hope this helps, Please revert if the issue persists. Please share me the Model you are using.

Take care and have an amazing day!
