My notebook's touchpad had suddenly stopped working altogether. I couldn't find its option either but when my friend rebooted my computer, it appeared but it stayed that way only for a day. After a few hours of usage, the touchpad option disappears from the setting. 

 

This is quite frustrating given how inconvenient it gets to keep connecting a separate mouse for the purpose.
