Bought the same laptop in September of 24 and the GPU overheated and died after a driver update (windows update).  Sent the computer back and bought another one, same one,  HP Envy 16 with RTX 4060 8g.  The GPU just overheated and died again.  Same symptom as the first one,  overtemp alarm at computer startup, then GPU not present on PCI bus.  Just shows up as hidden device in device manager, not present.

Why this is happening at computer start up after an windows update is unclear to me.  Not using the computer, windows update the previous day, power on and nothing, black screen for a long time, forced shutdown after waiting 15 minutes for something to happen help pwr button down until shutdown.  multipe restarts and finally started with on board crappy embedded motherboard video adaptor.  PCI GPU card not present, its physically there, but dead.

Hi @tcmet123,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear about the troubles you've been experiencing with your HP Envy 16 and the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 GPU. Overheating and similar failures after driver updates can be frustrating. Here are a few things you might consider:

Driver Issues: Sometimes, new drivers can conflict with certain settings or cause hardware to behave unexpectedly. You might want to roll back the driver to a previous version that was stable.

Cooling System: Ensure that the cooling system is functioning optimally. Check if the fans are working properly and that there is no dust blockage, which can hinder airflow.

Firmware Update: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your laptop. Official HP® Support.

Environmental Factors: Ensure that the laptop is not being used in an environment that could lead to overheating, such as on soft surfaces that might block ventilation ports.

Power Settings: Verify that your power settings are configured for optimal performance under heavy loads, where necessary cooling measures are prioritized.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
