I bought my laptop at Costco and it came with an MPP Tilt Pen 2.0 (Model #3J123AA).

According to HP they no longer carry this stylus nor have replacement nib .... FINE

I bought replacement nibs on Amazon and none of them fit. My nib has a thinner and shorter shank than anything available.

I also bought a new MPP Tilt Pen 2.0 (Model #3J122AA) and it seems that the magnetic feature of the stylus is now opposite. That is to say that the magnet on the pen pulls away from the laptop instead of pulling the stylus toward the laptop for storage on the side.

Lastly, I did find the correct MPP Tilt Pen 2.0 model from China, but how can I be sure that the magnet will be correct?

Please help me find a replacement NIB or a replacement pen.

THANKS !!!!!

Hi @RMW49

Thanks for your response.

I’m glad to hear you located the original box and the additional replacement nibs.

To clarify the situation:

  • The HP Envy x360 15-fe1073cl is designed to work with the HP Rechargeable MPP 2.0 Tilt Pen (USB-C). This is the official stylus model referenced on your laptop’s packaging.
  • The pen you purchased from Amazon, HP MPP 2.0 Tilt Pen in Black (#3J122AA#ABL), is indeed a compatible model. Functionally, it should work with your device for inking and tilt features.
  • However, not all HP pens are designed with the same magnetic attachment system. Some models magnetize securely to the side of certain Spectre or Envy devices, while others may not align with the magnetic strip or may repel slightly depending on polarity. This does not affect pen performance.
  • The part numbers you mentioned (SA: N33473-001, MPN S1P403030578) correspond to HP’s internal identifiers for the USB-C rechargeable version of the MPP 2.0 Tilt Pen. This version is the one originally bundled with your laptop .

Hi @RMW49,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

It appears you're experiencing issues finding a compatible replacement nib or tilt pen that works with the magnetic feature for your HP laptop. The MPP Tilt Pen 2.0, Model #3J123AA, is specific in its design, and it can be challenging to find compatible accessories.

Recommendations:

Confirm Compatibility: Before purchasing any replacement parts or new pens, ensure they are specifically compatible with your model. The new MPP Tilt Pen 2.0 you mentioned, Model #3J122AA, should ideally be compatible with your existing setup and magnetic features if it’s intended as a direct replacement.

Third-Party Manufacturers: Be cautious when purchasing third-party products, as not all are guaranteed to work with your specific HP model, even if labeled as compatible.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for answering. I some questions regarding the MPP Tilt Pen 2.0 #3J122AA vs #3J123AA.

  • Are the NIBs indeed different sizes between the 2 model numbers?
  • Should the magnetic polarities be different on the 2 models?
  • Do the model numbers identify the color of the pen?

Hi @RMW49,

Thanks for your response.

HP doesn’t list different nib sizes between the two model numbers in official documentation. Both use the same MPP 2.0 tip design and should accept standard MPP 2.0 tips that fit this series.

Third-party or non-authentic units  magnets or internal configuration may not always match OEM parts.

Model Number and Color: The model numbers usually identify the color of the pen, ensuring that consumers can select their preferred color when purchasing.

Hi, I just purchased from Amazon the MPP 2.0 Tilt Pen in Black #3J122AA#ABL.

Here is the link https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089NZNJB2?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

Again, this pen repels against the magnetic side of my laptop.

Today I finally found the original box that my HP Envy x360 15-fe1073cl came in and I have the pen box with 2 additional NIBs ..... woo hoo.

However, I would still like to get to the bottom of this mystery for the future.

  • The laptop box says USB-C Rechargeable MPP 2.0 Tilt Pen.
  • The box the stylus came in says HP SA: N33473-001, MPN 2024/03 S1P403030578

Please provide me with any info you have on this.

THANKS AGAIN.
