Pavilion x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I learned the HP x360 mentioned in previous messages was not NEW as reported on the sellers post on Amazon, and it had been returned to the seller for repairs before, so I got Amazon to accept that one being returned for full credit.   I then bought this Pavilion x360 2-in-1 touchscreen in August which I verified was NEW.

The issues I have:

- While typing in any app, the cursor sometimes goes to a different area without my doing anything, obvious that is.  For example, while typing a reply to an email, the cursor will suddenly go from the line I am typing on to the TO, BCC, or Subject line and type in that area without my noticing it. In fact, it did it when I was typing this message...the words "without my noticing" somehow were put in the line above after the words "typing a reply".  I have no clue how that happened.

- If I have several tabs open, clicking on the "X" to close a tab doesn't always work.  I've often had to hit the "X" half a dozen times, or until I get the menu so I can click on "Close tab".

- When in Facebook, I click on the "Like" menu to get all the options, but I'm not always able to select the one I want to use, the "Like" menu goes away. I often have to hold a finger from my left hand on the "Like" menu button, the use a finger of my right hand to select the icon I want to use.

I've tried all the options in the virtual helper, except the one to remove the battery...not even sure how to do that,  or want to try to do it in this laptop.  Nothing helps.

Any suggestions?   Laptop is under warranty until August 2021.

Hi@ElPresidente, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I see from your post that you're having issues with the touchscreen not working properly on your HP Pavilion notebook. Don't worry we'll work together to help you find a solution.

In this scenario, I would suggest here is to follow these steps here:

Perform a Hard reset on the notebook

Many startup errors and other problems can be resolved by decreasing the amount of power stored in hardware components. Decreasing stored power is sometimes referred to as a "Hard Reset". Use the following steps to perform a hard reset on a computer:

1. If Windows is open, click Start and then Shutdown.

If Windows is not open and the computer has power, press and hold the power button on the computer until the computer shuts off.

2. With the power off, disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer.

3. With the power off and the power cord disconnected, press the power button on the computer for 5 seconds. The power light indicator on or near the power button might turn on briefly but then go out.

4. Reconnect the power cord and turn on the power.

The next thing, I would suggest here is to Run Windows Updates troubleshooter -

Download and install the troubleshooter from this link.

Now try to perform a Windows update:

1) In the search box, type, and open Windows Updates.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

If the issue still persists, I would suggest here is to update the Bios, chipset and graphics card drivers on your computer from  HP Support Assistant Updates -

1) In the search box, type, and open HP Support Assistant.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Eagerly waiting for your response!

that said, If the information I've provided was helpful,

Thanks.  I followed your instructions, there was one MS update which I installed (20H2).  No other issues were uncovered via HP Support Assistant (version SP110352).   I have to play around with several apps to see if this resolved the issue. I'll post what I find later.

Thought I'd give you an update....

As I was composing a document in Word (Office 365) the cursor moved to a different line without my consciously doing so.  Also did that in a couple emails and in Facebook Messenger.   And it still takes 2 fingers to select anything other than  “Like” in Facebook posts.   I did manage to “fix” the problem with tabs not closing in Browsers.   I changed the mouse speed for “Double-Click” to a faster setting. That seems to have fixed that situation.

BTW, these are the exact same issues I had with the original HP touchscreen laptop that I returned to Amazon (HP X360 15t Premium Convertible 2-in-1) earlier this year.

I thought the issues with the previous laptop were isolated....evidently not as I am having the same issues with this new one.   I’m really getting frustrated with this laptop.

THis issue is NOT yet solved.

An update:  I found a bunch of updates/drivers (including a new BIOS) on the HP web page and installed them all.  Sadly it did not fix the issues of the cursor moving to a different line without my doing a thing.  I even turned off the Touchpad thinking that I may have touched it accidentally.  Nope, that didn't solve the problem either.

I’ve run the Diagnostics app, nothing wrong detected.   I've also reset the keyboard, and re-calibrated the touchscreen. Nothing helped.

I can be typing on any app and the cursor moves to another line, in some cases to an entirely different section of the app page. For example, I can be typing in the message area of an email and the cursor will jump to the TO field, CC field, or SUBJECT field…all without any involvement on my part (that I know of).

And now a new issue: I have the "Tablet" setting for "When I use this device as a tablet"  to "Ask me before switching modes".  Problem is it never asks me when  I go to use it as a Tablet.  I can't find anything to fix that problem.

PS: I did manage to remove the old Laptop and add the one I currently have to my Dashboard.

I cannot mark this as solved because it isn't and frankly I don't know who it got marked as solved.

I continue to have the bouncing cursor on this laptop, As I said in a previous post:

Can't anyone tell me what is wrong with this thing, does it need to be replaced on HP's warranty?
