OMEN by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-wf0000 (755G3AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I’ve just unboxed a brand new omen laptop, and straight away only half the keyboard backlights are turning on.

I’ve tried turning the computer on and off, selecting lighting options in the gaming hub, and running updates / hardware diagnostics. Nothing is working.
What’s more, when in the gaming hub the colours and keys selected don’t correlate to the actual keyboard. Image attached for reference.

Any ideas on how to fix? Not great for straight out of the box

Hi @GMason8,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It's unfortunate that you're experiencing issues with your new OMEN by HP 16.1 Inch Gaming Laptop's keyboard backlight. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially fix the problem.

  • Restart the Laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can help resolve issues. Ensure you fully shut down the laptop and then turn it back on.
  • Update Drivers: Make sure that all your drivers, especially the graphics and keyboard drivers, are up-to-date. You can check for updates in the Device Manager or download the latest drivers from the HP support website.
  • BIOS/UEFI Update: Check if there's a BIOS/UEFI update available for your laptop. Updating the system firmware may address compatibility issues.
  • Reset RGB Settings: If you've customized the RGB settings in the OMEN Gaming Hub, try resetting them to default settings. Sometimes, conflicting configurations can cause issues.
  • Reinstall OMEN Gaming Hub: Uninstall the OMEN Gaming Hub and then reinstall it from the official HP website. This can resolve any software-related issues.
  • Check for Windows Updates: Ensure that your operating system is fully updated. Windows updates may include fixes for compatibility issues and bugs.
  • Factory Reset (If No Other Solution Works): As a last resort, if all else fails, you may consider performing a factory reset on your laptop. However, be aware that this will erase all your data, so make sure to back up your important files first.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
