Flickering

My friend have an omen 16 laptop. It has this issue where it’s display flickers at inconsistent times, and the power button on the keyboard flickers at the same time. It sometimes cuts to the log in screen whenever this happens, however It’s not a power issue, since the power light on the side is consistently on. I switched out a new battery, ran only on AC, and neither helped. It’s not overheating since this happens sometimes happens when I boot the laptop. When connected to a second monitor, it flickers also, and sometimes can run by itself, but every function connected to the laptop itself(like keyboard) doesn’t work. I’m out of options, so any help would be appreciated

@Inga_agnI, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Based on your detailed description of the issue with the HP Omen 16 laptop including screen flickering, keyboard power button flickering, and peripherals becoming unresponsive this appears to be a hardware-level issue, possibly related to the motherboard, GPU, or embedded controller (EC). Here's a structured approach to troubleshoot and resolve it:

Update BIOS and Firmware

Outdated BIOS or firmware can cause erratic behavior like flickering and peripheral issues.

Perform a Hard Reset

This can help clear any residual power issues:

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Disconnect all peripherals and power.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect power and boot up.

Check for Driver Conflicts

Run HP Diagnostics

Use HP’s built-in diagnostics to check for hardware issues:

  • Restart the laptop and press F2 repeatedly to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  • Run System Tests > Extensive Test (especially for graphics and motherboard).

External Monitor Behavior

Since the flickering also occurs on an external monitor and the keyboard becomes unresponsive:

  • This suggests the issue is not limited to the display panel, but likely involves the GPU or motherboard.
  • Try connecting via Thunderbolt/USB-C instead of HDMI to isolate port-related issues

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
