Pavilion 17.3 laptop
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Windows 10 Home

Version: 10.0.18363 Build 18363

Laptop: Pavilion

Model#: 17-e048ca

Purchased year: 2013

Display Card: AMD Radeon 8650G

60Hz

8 bit

Driver:

date: July 21, 2015

version: 15.200.1065.0

BIOS:

Version/Date: Insyde / F.22 September 26, 2013

SMBIOS:

Version: 2.7

Screen: I opened the laptop and this information was on a sticker at the back of the screen

Screen Model#: B173RW01 V.5

See the attached videos to understand the screen problem.

The screen is normal only when it is at a certain angle (less than 30 degrees from keyboard.

I have not tried it with a secondary screen yet.  Most likely display output will be normal with secondary monitor / tv connected with HDMI cable

What is the problem and what is the best possible solution?

@HP_Canada_User If its only working on a particular angle, this could be a hardware malfunction, however, to confirm the same, let's perform the below steps:

Perform a power reset (no data loss) using these steps: Click here, proceed to next step if this works

Attempt to run a test from the HP hardware diagnostic tool, using this link: Click here for details.

If the issue appears on the diagnostics, it could again, determine a hardware failure,

If the hardware tests passed: please update the BIOS & Chip-set drivers from the HP website using this link: Click here

Thanks,  just hooked up lap top with my old smart tv with a $4 HDMI cable from dollar store.  Working perfect.

Will see later to replace the laptop screen.

Regards and stay healthy and safe.

@HP_Canada_User That's great, enjoy using the smart TV, however, please keep in mind, the issue shouldn't be left unattended as the display failure may cause other issues on the device, so, get it repaired or replaced before its too late 😉 have a good day.
