Pavilion 17 support external monitor at 2560x1440?

Pavilion 17
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I've been racking my brain and losing years off my life trying to figure this out!

I bought a BenQ 24" monitor (BL2420PT) that can support 2560x1440 resolution for my Pavilion 17 laptop.  Unfortunately, I can't get the monitor above 1980 x 1080.  Apparently, the GPU (Radon HD 8610G) should support higher resolution, but I can't figure it out.

I am using an HDMI cable (the only monitor input available), which could be the issue?  Maybe it doesn't support higher resolution (e.g.: HDMI 1.3)?

I've unplugged the monitor cable, reinstalled drivers, etc.  There is no option above 1980 x 1080.  If this is the case, I'll buy a new computer because I need the resolution for work.  But a simple yes or no would save lots of time a frustration!

Thank you very much,

- Joey

Pavilion 17 support external monitor at 2560x1440?

Hi,

What is your HP Pavilion 17 ? Normally you can ONLY give you 1920 x 1080 using HDMI ports on Pavilion 15 and 17 machines. Please use the following instructions to find out the model/product of your machine:

Pavilion 17 support external monitor at 2560x1440?

Hello banhien,

My computer is an HP Pavilion 17-084ca.  I  was trying to find information on what kind of HDMI port it was, but it seems it probably only gives 1920 x 1080?  The GPU can apparently give higher resolution so it is a shame that it might be limited by the HDMI port...
