Good morning everyone. I have an older but practically new laptop that is Hp Pavillion Protect Smart. It has a problem where the screen seems to freeze continuously for a second or two and then suddenly start again. The problem started with the screen suddenly going black and after fiew seconds returned ok but after that was showed a message saying "a device has been removed. Your PC needs to be restarted" and since then it has started having the problem. I've tried replacing the hard drive with an SSD and reinstalling the OS. but it worked for 10 minutes and then same problem again. I'm afraid it's the graphics card and would like to know if anyone has heard of these issues yet and if and how solved it  Thank you

Hi @Sheoll,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing issues with your HP Pavilion Protect Smart freezing or having problems with the video display, there are several potential causes and solutions you can try. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow.

  • Update your graphics drivers: Outdated or incompatible graphics drivers can often cause freezing and display issues. Visit the HP support website or the manufacturer's website for your graphics card to download and install the latest drivers.
  • Check for overheating: Overheating can lead to performance problems and freezing. Ensure that the cooling vents are clear of dust and debris. Consider using a laptop cooling pad or ensuring proper airflow around your desktop computer.
  • Scan for malware: Malicious software can sometimes cause system instability. Run a full system scan using your preferred antivirus program to check for any infections.
  • Adjust power settings: Sometimes, power settings can affect performance. Go to the Control Panel (Windows) or System Preferences (macOS) and check your power settings. Make sure it's set to "Balanced" or "High Performance" rather than a power-saving mode.
  • Reduce startup programs: Unnecessary background programs can consume system resources and cause freezing. Disable or remove any unnecessary startup programs by opening the Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc on Windows) and navigating to the Startup tab.
  • Perform a system cleanup: Temporary files, junk files, and corrupted system files can impact performance. Use the built-in Disk Cleanup utility on Windows or a third-party cleanup tool to remove unnecessary files and optimize your system.
  • Check for hardware issues: Faulty hardware components, such as the graphics card or RAM, can cause freezing and display problems.
  • Reset or reinstall the operating system: If the freezing issue persists, you may need to perform a system reset or reinstall the operating system. This should be done as a last resort and only after backing up your important data.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
