Plug Hp laptop to Dell monitor

Hello,

I want to connect my lapto Hp Envy model 15-w237cl to Dell monitor, I tried with a cable DP to HDMI and did not work

Laptop

Envy 15-w237cl

Windows 10 64 bits

Ports available: HDMI 

Del Monitor:

Dell 2419H 

Ports: DP, HDMI, VGA

Folks are reporting problems using video adapters all the time -- and I wish I could tell you that the adapters simply work, but very often they do not -- and when they do not, there is nothing we can do about it.  I had to go through three different brands of the same video adapter until I found one that worked -- and the company that supplied that has since gone out of business.

Since both the laptop and monitor have HDMI jacks, that is the way I would go.
