I have reinstalled my HP Probook 4540s to Windows 8.1 from MSDN AA iso and I cant install display driver.
I have two graphic cards in ntb: Intel HD 4000 and AMD Radeon HD 7650M
I have downloaded this driver:
I installed it - it allows me to switch graphics, run catalyst control centre, but if i select high performance graphic gard then many games can't run. For example: League of legends(graphics card must support at least shader model 2.0), Call of duty 4,5 - unknown directx error, ...
In Device manager both graphic cards has date of driver 1st august 2012 and version of driver 8.982.6.0 from AMD.
I have also tried to install this driver with Win 8 compatibility as an Administrator and in windows booted with don't require signed drivers and still no luck.

You may now find the latest AMD driver for your Probook 4540s here:http://h20566.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/psi/swdHome/?sp4ts.oid=5229459&spf_p.tpst=swdMain&spf_p.prp_swdMain=wsrp-navigationalState%3DswEnvOID%253D4158%257CswLang%253D%257Caction%253DlistDriver&javax.portlet.begCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.endCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken
Hope this solves all your issues!

I imagine you will have to wait until the drivers for W8.1 are released by HP in the next week or so (hopefully).
In the meantime, you can see if reading this helps.

Firstly, sorry for my english, since i'm french.
I got the same problem here. I've updated my W8 to W8.1 today. I re-installed the HP drivers for the graphic cards, the switch was working, but i was unable to play any game on my ADM card (error at launch)(it was working on the intel card, but perf are obviously crappy).
So here is what i did:
1/(my windows is not in english so there's might be difference)
In the control pannel, i clicked on Device manager, selected the AMD card (property) => Driver => Previous version.
It will just update to the windows driver of amd card.
2/Do the same for the intel card.
3/next download and install this =>http://www2.ati.com/drivers/beta/amd_catalyst_13.10_mobility_beta.exe
and that's all.
I think 1st and 2nd steps are'nt necessary, but it is as you want.

I have a similar issue. After I updated to windows 8.1, my AMD Radeon 7650m does not work. If i install the old driver( 8.982.6.0), it does not work. Even after I update it to the 9.xxx driver, it shows up as AMD Radeon Hybrid (Blocked).
Basically, none of my games are able to launch after installing windows 8.1
On a separate note, the ProtectTools does not work for windows 8.1 either.

I tried Riri91's suggestion of downloading this driver:http://www2.ati.com/drivers/beta/amd_catalyst_13.10_mobility_beta.exe
It worked and now I can play games.
However I am now having problems with the sleep mode on the computer. The computer reboots itself when i try to wake it from sleep.
So I don't think this can be a viable long term solution to the problem. Perhaps more updated drivers will help.
Someone please help, windows 8 is just giving me problem after problem!

Thanks for your help Riri91, at least I can play games now. The sleep issue could be some other problem, I am not sure. If anyone is having any sleep issues please let me know too.
