I have been battling this same issue with a device for over a year. If there was a resolution, could it be added to this thread, or a knowledge article?

Hi @STS225,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're unable to adjust the screen brightness on your HP Spectre x360 after installing a driver. Follow these troubleshooting steps:

Check Power Options Settings:

  • Go to the Control Panel, select "Power Options".

  • Ensure that the correct power plan is selected, and adjust settings if needed.

Update Graphics Driver:

  • Ensure you have the latest version of the graphics driver installed. You can download it from the HP Drivers & Software page by searching for your specific device model.

Check Device Manager:

  • Open Device Manager, expand the "Display adapters" section, and right-click on your graphics driver.

  • Select "Update driver" and follow the prompts. If the issue persists, you might consider rolling back to a previous version if recent updates caused the problem.

Use HP Hardware Diagnostics:

  • Use the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool to identify any hardware-related issues. To access, restart your PC and press the F2 key to enter Diagnostics.

Adjust System Settings:

  • Sometimes, Windows updates may change system settings. Check "Advanced Power Settings" to ensure that display brightness settings haven't been altered for certain power modes.

Reset BIOS Settings:

  • Access the BIOS by restarting your laptop and pressing F10 during boot. Ensure that the BIOS is up to date and restore the default settings if necessary.

Perform System Restore:

  • If the problem started after a recent update or installation, use Windows "System Restore" to revert to a previous state where brightness controls worked correctly.

Reinstalling Display Driver:

  • In Device Manager, right-click on your display adapter, select "Uninstall device", and restart the computer to allow Windows to automatically reinstall the driver.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
