For the last 2 days my screen goes black while gaming. Whole screen shuts off and sometimes i hear gpu restart beep once. Can't use anything unless i hard reset the laptop. I tried ddu to reinstall my drivers and it didn't work. I did 3 different stress test apps with tens of times and only furmark 8k benchmark made my screen off once. My gpu doesnt go higher than 75*C and my fps is normal. Please help.

Hi @bercaixdd,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thank you for the detailed description. The symptoms you’re seeing on your OMEN 15-ek1000, screen going black during gaming, occasional GPU restart beep, requiring a hard reset, point to a GPU driver or hardware-level fault, even though temps and FPS look normal. Since you’ve already tried DDU and stress tests, here’s the HP-recommended troubleshooting path:
Step 1: Update BIOS and HP Drivers
- Use HP Support Assistant or download manually: 👉 OMEN 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop PC 15-ek1000 | HP® Support
- Update:
- BIOS (critical for GPU stability).
- Chipset drivers.
- NVIDIA GPU driver (use HP-certified version, not just GeForce Experience).
Step 2: Disable Hybrid Graphics (Test Mode)
- In OMEN Gaming Hub or BIOS:
- Switch to Discrete GPU only mode.
- This rules out Optimus switching issues.
Step 3: Check Windows Event Viewer
- Press Windows + X → Event Viewer → Windows Logs → System.
- Look for Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding or Kernel-Power errors.
- If present, it’s a GPU driver timeout (TDR).
Step 4: Adjust TDR Settings
- Open Registry Editor: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers
- Add DWORD:
- TdrDelay = 10
- Restart PC.
Step 5: Stress Test with HP Diagnostics
- Restart → Press Esc → F2 → Run HP UEFI Hardware Diagnostics (GPU and memory tests). 👉 HP PC Hardware Diagnostics | HP® Support
Step 6: Firmware & Power Settings
- In Power Options → Advanced Settings:
- Set PCI Express → Link State Power Management = Off.
- Disable Fast Startup in Windows.
If the Issue Persists
- This could be a GPU VRAM fault or a power delivery issue.
- Contact HP Support for repair or board replacement: 👉 HP Contact Support
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
