Pavilion g7
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello friends,

I would like to share the solution which I found asked on other boards, but left unanswered.

I recently came into possession of an HP Pavilion g7.

Loading a fresh install of Windows 7, 64 bit brought it back to life but the screen was permanently dim.

Thinking I had the proper chipset and video drivers, I loaded those and the dim condition persisted.

The forum answers suggested the problem might be failing graphics or failure to load the hotkey shortcut drivers, so the brightness might be controlled by the key combination of fn+ sunburst keys.

But, as there are so many variations of the g7, (some Intel, some AMD), it is vital to know the exact model.

On my particular machine, the information was not on the underside data label.  Instead, it was inside the battery compartment.

Luckily, HP still had the firmware and graphics driver for this particular model.

Once loaded, the screen became bright and clear.  The machine is now fully functional
