I recently purchased a Spectre x360 laptop and an LG 43ud79 monitor. I'm trying to connect the Spectre x360 directly to the LG monitor via the USB-C port without using an HDMI converter. Problematically, however, no matter which of the two USB-C ports I connect the monitor to, the x360 does not detect the external monitor. I've installed all of the drivers provided by LG, but it still isn't detecting the monitor. Has anyone else struggled with this issue?

Welcome to HP Support Forums. 🙂
Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.
I understand that you have an HP Spectre x360 series laptop. I read that you have connected an LG monitor to the USB-C port and there is no display. Not worry, I'll do my best to help you. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.
For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:
- Please let me know the exact laptop model no. This link will help you to find the model no: http://hp.care/2bygf7l
If your laptop has the following USB C (thunderbolt) port only then it will support an external display. The below encircled USB type C supports an external display.
If the USB C port is not thunderbolt capable
Hope this information helps. Let me know. Cheers! 🙂

I know this issue's old, but for other people that ran into this issue: I was attempting to use a USB-C cable that came with my Pixel phone. Initially, my HP Spectre thought it was connected to a USB hub. I think it knew it was connected to something, but no video was appearing on the monitor. The solution was to use a cable that supports video! I ended up getting this one: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/belkin-1-6-usb-type-c-to-usb-type-c-thunderbolt-3-cable-black/5912509.p...
