Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Since 1 week, whenever I start up my computer, the Synaptics Touchpad Driver won't start up automatically, and I have to manually go to Touchpad Settings in Control Panel, open Extra settings for the driver to be activated.

I have tried a reboot with all non-Microsoft services turned off to check for software interference. Also, I edited the registry DeleteUserSettingOnUpgrade in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARESynapticsSynTPInstall to 0. However, the problem keeps occurring.

Is there anyone who has come across the same problem and has found a solution?

I am using the Synaptics Touchpad Driver version 19.5.10.75, which is an older driver, but I wish not to update it because it caused loss of various functions (as i've mentioned here).

@Hugo21 I hope you've created a backup of the registry before attempting those edits, that said, here's something that has helped others resolve this issue:

Roll back to the older driver

  1. Open the Device Manager.
  2. Now locate your touchpad driver and double click it to open its properties.
  3. Navigate to the Driver tab and click the Roll Back Driver button.

    Synaptics touchpad has stopped working

Keep in mind that this option might not be available. If not, you’ll need to uninstall the driver and try using the default driver instead.

  1. In Device Manager locate your touchpad driver, right-click it and choose Uninstall device.

  2. Check Delete the driver software for this device option and click on Uninstall button.

    Synaptics touchpad keeps resetting

Once the driver is uninstalled, click on Scan for hardware changes icon.

Touchpad disabled automatically

Windows will now install the default driver.

Thanks for the reply Riddle_Decipher.

There's no rollback option available in the Device Manager.

I'd rather not use the default driver; as I've pointed out in the other post I mentioned, this causes loss of various functionalities. The problem is that Windows STARTS by using the default driver, and then switches to the Synaptics Driver once i've opened the Touchpad Settings with the ClickPad Settings menu.

@Hugo21 In that case, I suggest you try manually updating the drivers from the Device Manager.

  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Search for the touchpad device from the device list, right-click on it and select Update driver.
    Synaptics touchpad not working
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions and complete the installation of the latest driver.
    •  If no driver updates are available, you may also search for the updated touchpad device drivers in the Drivers and Driver Store folders in the location C:WindowsSystem32 by selecting the option Browse my computer for Driver Software.

In case you’re unable to find any latest drivers on your computer, then go to Windows store and download the synaptics software, the same should add the advanced tab that cab be used to change the way your touchpad works, please check the same to ensure its enabled.

Let me know how that goes.
