Hi @Christian-chull,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
When taskbar icons turn blank after waking your computer from sleep, and you have to restart explorer.exe to fix it, this can be quite frustrating. This issue is often related to problems with the Windows Explorer process or graphics driver. Here are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
1. Update Graphics Drivers
Check for Driver Updates:
- Open Device Manager (press Win + X and select Device Manager).
- Expand Display adapters and right-click your graphics card.
- Select Update driver and follow the prompts to search automatically for updated driver software.
Visit Manufacturer’s Website:
- For the latest drivers, visit the website of your graphics card manufacturer (NVIDIA, AMD, Intel) and download the latest drivers for your specific model.
2. Update Windows
- Check for Updates:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Click Check for updates and install any available updates.
3. Restart Windows Explorer Automatically
- Create a Task to Restart Explorer:
- Press Win + R, type taskschd.msc, and press Enter to open Task Scheduler.
- Select Create Basic Task from the right-hand panel.
- Name the task (e.g., "Restart Explorer") and click Next.
- Choose When I log on and click Next.
- Select Start a program and click Next.
- In the Program/script box, type C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe.
- In the Add arguments (optional) box, type /c "taskkill /f /im explorer.exe && start explorer.exe".
- Click Next and then Finish.
4. Check for Corrupted System Files
Run System File Checker:
- Open Command Prompt as an administrator (search for cmd, right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as administrator).
- Type sfc /scannow and press Enter. Wait for the process to complete.
Run DISM Tool:
- In Command Prompt, type DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and press Enter. Wait for the process to complete.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
