Spectre x360 ap0018TU
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Summary of Issues

The touch screen works when the screen is more than 90 degrees above the keyboard, but when the screen is lower, the touch screen disables.

Troubleshooting/Diagnosing Error

From 120 degrees, if I lower the screen to 60 degrees, then return it to 120 degrees, the touch screen functions once the angle is greater than 90. There is no error in the Device Manager at any point in the process. This occurs in both Windows as well as the System Diagnostics (Esc then F2)

However, if I close the laptop, then the touch screen is disabled when I open it again. There is an error in the Device Manager for "ELAN EzTouchFilter", which is

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

A request for the HID descriptor failed.

Disabling then enabling "ELAN EzTouchFilter" enables the touch screen again.

Troubleshooting Steps Taken

Relevent drivers have been updated through Device Manager/the HP Website.

ELAN EzTouchFilter - 1.0.0.6 (29/01/2018)

Intel(R) Serial IO I2C Host Controller - 30.100.1902.39DE8 (11/01/2019)

Since this error occured when updating to 1803, I couldn't roll back the feature update at the time, but I have tried resetting Windows on 1803. Subsequent updates to 1809 and 1903 didn't fix the issue.

Conclusion from my POV

Since none of these issues were present before the 1803 update, and only manifested at that time, I would think that it was a software issue. However various combinations of driver updates/rolling back and Windows Updates not fixing the issue would suggest there is a hardware issue at hand.

Hi,

I've performed a reset like you mentioned. It did not fix the issue.

Thanks
