My computer updated the Synaptics touchpad driver several weeks ago.  I always have the tapping function turned off to eliminate false clicks from my hand dragging.  Since the update, every time my computer restarts or wakes up, it loads the default settings, which is the tapping function.  As soon as I go to the touchpad "clickpad settings", then my preferences are loaded and the "tapping" is disabled on the touchpad.  I have reinstalled an older driver and also the latest driver and I am still having trouble.  Does anybody know how to get the computer to load the "preferred" setting at start up?

Same problem here. Last time it was solved by a new driver from synaptics which came 1 months later... -.-

I hope it works faster this time. This is terrible!

@uuski, @Obstmann,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I reviewed your post and I understand that the touchpad loses settings after reboot.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I recommend you follow the below steps and check whether the issue is resolved.

Press the Windows Logo key + to open a Run. Type regedit into the Run dialog and press Enter.

In the left pane of the Registry Editor, navigate to the following directory:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTP\

Image is for illustration only, follow the exact path

Click on Install in the left pane to display its contents in the right pane. In the right pane of the Registry Editor, locate and double-click on a key named DeleteUserSettingsOnUpgrade. Replace whatever is in the Value data field of this key with 0. Click on OK. Close the Registry Editor.

Restart your computer, and your specified Synaptics settings should hold even after your computer reboots.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

If you wish to show appreciation for my efforts, mark my post as Accept as Solution. Your feedback counts!

Cheers!
