HP Pavilion Touchsmart 15
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

My touchscreen has stopped working. I only noticed a couple days ago, and tried rebooting my laptop to see if it would fix, but it didn't. I went to the HP Support Assistant to troubleshoot the problem, and began to use the virtual agent. The first step said:

  • In Windows, search for and open ‘View pen and touch info’. If the Pen and touch section reads No pen or touch input is available for this display, the computer does not have a touchscreen.

I looked and got this result:

 you no have touchscreen.png

It says that I have no touch input, even though I have had a functioning touchscreen for the past four years.

The next step the virtual assistant gives me is to open the Device Manager and Enable the HID-compliant touch screen. When I go to the device manager, however, there is no such thing. There is a Touchscreen listed under "Other devices" with a triangle and exclamation point next to it, and that pathway will not allow me to update the driver.

I also have a wireless USB mouse that stopped working at the same time, but though at first I thought it was a coincidence, I don't think it is anymore, since it also isn't listed in the device manager (I suspect it is one of the "Unknown devices"), and I got this text when I went to look in the settings:

I would really appreciate some help with this. Though it isn't affecting the performance of anything else on my laptop, it is quite annoying and the fact that two hardware devices stopped working at the same time is worrisome. Please help.

Thanks for the advice! I actually found a solution by looking through some other posts for the same problem. I found a solution here: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Cannot-find-drives-for-touchsc...

Apparently it's an issue with the latest Windows Update. Once you uninstall it, everything works again!

@KHTree,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand the touchscreen isn't working, Don't worry I'll do my best to help you with this.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Could you provide me with the exact model of the PC? Use this link to find it:  https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03754824  (Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).

Did this happen after a recent software update?

Have you checked if the touchscreen works fine in Bios?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Perform a Hard reset on the notebook: Many startup errors and other problems can be resolved by decreasing the amount of power stored in hardware components. Decreasing stored power is sometimes referred to as a "Hard Reset". Use the following steps to perform a hard reset on a computer:

I would recommend you to check if the Touchscreen is responding on the BIOS by restarting the computer and tapping on the F10 key to gain access to the same (note that it's a confirmed hardware failure if the touch doesn't respond on BIOS) and you will need to contact the HP Phone support to set up a repair service (Free, if the computer is within the hp warranty).

If it works on bios, please click here to resolve any software issues.

Attempt to run a test using the HP hardware diagnostic tool

If it doesn't work on BIOS or the diagnostics tool either,

it's a hardware failure and you may need to Contact HP to set up a hardware repair service.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Eagerly waiting for your response!

I hope you have a good day ahead,

And Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.
