Turning Off Touchpad

Need to turn off touchpad when using wireless mouse. Hands are big so they rest on the touchpad and skew where the pointer goes when trying to use the keyboard. W10 settings do not have option to do this. Have latest version of W10 for the laptop downloaded as of Nov 11th.

I reviewed your post and I understand that you want to turn off the touchpad when a mouse is connected.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I recommend you follow the below steps and to disable the touchpad when a mouse is connected.

1. Open Settings.
2. Click on Devices.
3. Click on Touchpad.
4. Under "Touchpad," clear the Leave touchpad on when a mouse is connected option.

Thank you for your recommendation.

Unfortunately, my W10 settings do not have option to do this--there is no "Leave touchpad on when a mouse is connected option" in my Touchpad settings; it only allows me to change touchpad sensitivity--no other options. Have latest version of W10 for the laptop downloaded as of Nov 11th.

Update the Windows on your computer and check whether you get this option.

Here is how it is done.

1. Select the Start (Windows) button from the bottom-left corner.
2. Go to settings (gear icon).
3. Select the Update and Security icon.
4. Choose Windows Update tab in the sidebar (Circular arrows)
5. Select Check for updates. If there is an available update, it will begin downloading automatically.

Thanks for your suggestion. I went to W10 updates. No updates for W10 are available. Last W10 feature update was 20H2 on 12 Nov 20.

Well, we don't have that in the touchpad W10 software on our HP laptop. it looks like this. we can only change sensitivity

I recommend you download and install the touchpad driver from the below link.

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp104001-104500/sp104407.exe

Here is how you need to uninstall the touchpad driver first.

1. Type "Device Manager" into the search field to open the device manager console.
2. Expand the node Mice and Other Pointing devices, right-click on each of the device entry, and click Uninstall.
3. On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK to start the uninstall process.
4. When the uninstall process is complete, remove the device.

NOTE: On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click the Delete the driver software for this device option to delete the driver package that was used for the device.
