USB-C to HDMI Adapter for 4K monitor

Hi,

I have an HP Pavilion 15-cs2023ca laptop, and I am trying to connect it to a 4K monitor (Philips 276E8VJSB). I cannot get 4K @ 60hz using HDMI directly, I suspect the HDMI port on the laptop is HDMI 1.4, because I can only get 4K @ 30hz. Looking at the spec page, my laptop has a USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C port, so I got a USB-C to HDMI 2.0 Adapter that can support 4K @ 60hz. I figured this would work, because USB-C is capable of handling 4K @ 60hz, and so is HDMI 2.0.

When I plugged the USB-C to HDMI adapter into my computer, I got an error message, saying "Display connection might be limited". The adapter didn't work, and my monitor was blank. I suspect that the problem may stem from the fact that the USB -C port for my laptop is "Data Transfer Only", but I was wondering if there was any workaround, or if there is any way of fixing this issue? Is there any other adapter or solution I can use to get 4K @ 60hz? Would a USB-C to DisplayPort 1.2 adapter work, or will it give the same error?

The specs of your machine is

It has  1 USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C™ (Data Transfer Only, 5 Gb/s signaling rate) port. USB-C to HDMI won't work because this USB-C does not support Alt mode. You have to do HDMI port which is HDMI v2.0 supporting up to 1920 × 1080 @ 60Hz. as mentioned on page 4 of the manual.
