Pavilion 15-cs3223ng
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am trying to connect my laptop to a second external monitor (Asus  VP228HE monitor)through the usb type c using a USB C to HDMI cable (4k @ 60Hz - Thunderbolt 3). Laptop does not recognize monitor stating Unknown usb device(port reset failed).

What are the functionalities of the USB type C of my 15-cs3223ng Pavilion laptop? Just for storage ?

Will buying another type of cable solve the problem and let me connect to my monitor?

Any other possible solution (maybe using a VGA cable or one of the 3.1 USB ports)?

Thanks in advance

@Drinuland

The specs of your machine is

         https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c06502393

It says it has  1 USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C™ (Data Transfer Only, 5 Gb/s signaling rate) port which does NOT support Alt mode therefore you can't use it to connect to an external monitor with/with out adapter/hub.

Any other solution like for example an adapter maybe using USB normal 3.1 to VGA or HDMI?
