Webcam on my laptop suddenly just decided to have green hue. Refer to the pic attached.

1) Tried installing new drivers, failed.

2) tried installing HP Media Smart, cannot be installed. no errors, etc. but can't find the media smart app at all after installing it. Hence, can't adjust low light compensation for webcam (as suggested on internet).

please help.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
  • Have you made any hardware/software changes?

While some degree of Green tint may be present under low light conditions, turning off the webcam IR lights will reduce and in certain cases eliminate the purple tint.

  1. Select Start > All Programs > HP > HP MediaSmart > HP MediaSmart Webcam.

  2. In HP MediaSmart Webcam, select Settings > Display > Advanced Settings, and then click the Camera Control tab.

  3. Select the Low Light Compensation check box, and then click Apply.

  4. Click OK.

NOTE:Disabling the webcam IR lights will cause display images to appear darker in low and zero light conditions. The webcam IR lights are also available on other webcam programs. Refer to the software Help for additional information.

If adjusting the Low Light Compensation settings does not fix the green tint of the webcam please contact HP for further assistance...

hi. I am unsure if it happened after  a windows upgrade or not because windows 10 continuously forces updates/etc.

as for hardware/software changes, no. I didn't make any change, unless, the windows 10 update has possibly caused this.

I am not able to install HP media smart, which is why I cannot adjust any low light compensation.

Thank you for posting back.

Let's perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant in order to install the latest drivers: (do not skip any troubleshooting steps if you feel steps are repeating)

To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
