HP 17-X025ND
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I'm trying to fix a (built-in) webcam problem for someone. The error message i'm getting when starting the Windows "camera" application: 0xA00F4244<NoCamerasAttached>

1. The device is a: HP 17-X025ND (Windows 10 x64)
2. The webcam does not show up in device manager
3. I have updated Windows this morning (and ran the search for new updates again) + I have updated HP software through the HP Support Assistant
4. I've tried the Windows Troubleshooting and the HP Support Assistant troubleshooting
5. I've tried to add the webcam through: Device manager --> Add legacy hardware. But I need a driver for this.
6. According to this link (HP website): https://support.hp.com/nl-nl/drivers/selfservice/hp-17-x000-notebook-pc-series/11203107/model/150030...
There is no driver for the webcam available.

Is there any way I can get this webcam to work again?

Edit: Added error message

@Scholing Since the device isn't available on the device manager, I suggest you open Device Manager again and click on Scan for hardware changes. (this would automatically reinstall the best drivers for it)

Once done, I suggest you install all the latest pending Windows updates as below and check if it helps.

  1. Go to “settings” and click on “update and security”.
  2. Under tab “Windows update”, click on the icon “check for updates”.
  3. Then once you find the pending updates install it and check.

Hi, thanks for your response. I will try these steps soon. You'll hear from me again.

I tried to run the "Scan for hardware changes" option. Sadly this option isn't available for me. I tried to open device manager as administrator and I tried to open device manager through the command line (as administrator). In both instances the option doesn't show up:

I ran the Windows Updates anyway, but the most recent were already installed.

@I_k_s I checked your solution as well. I checked the device as well as the manual, but sadly there wasn't a switch. Thanks for your reaction though.

@Scholing here's a few steps to resolve the issue, start with checking for the webcam kill switch (if available on your model) and ensure its turned on, ignore if you don't have a switch as such, also, if you've gone through scan for hardware changes, yet If Device Manager does not recognize the webcam after the scan, use Microsoft System Restore to go back to a time when the webcam was working properly.

If the issue persist, the webcam might have become unplugged internally, and the computer might require service to correct the issue and I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options, follow the below steps to get started:

1) Click on this link - http://www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Click on Sign-in or select the product using the below step:

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options".

Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!

Also, if you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty, if yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from,

here's how private messages work: Click here for details.

If you wish to thank me for my efforts, you could click on "Accept as solution" on my post as the solution should help others too.
