HP Pavilion Laptop 15t-cs300
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a HP Pavilion Laptop 15t-cs300 and the HDMI port seems to be wearing out.  I use the port to plug my laptop into the monitor at my office.  I have to jiggle it sometimes to get the port to work, and when I move the computer in the slightest. or something touches the HDMI cable, the monitor goes out.  I googled how to replace the port, but most of the answers say you can't really do that as it is connected directly to the motherboard. (nor am I that technical, and not a good solderer)  Soooo, my question is, can I get a USB-C to HDMI adapter and plug the monitor into the adapter, and the adapter into the USB-C on my laptop?  Will this work?  Side note, I already have a USB-C port extender with an HDMI port on it, and that does not work.  Granted the USB-C port extender is off brand, but it does work for my speakers (USB) and my webcam (also USB), but not the HDMI.  I would hate to have to buy a new laptop just because the HDMI port has gone bad.  Thanks for any help!!!!!!!

@George_Reav

It is a CTO machine, I can't get its REAL specs but it has ports which are similar to the following machine

           HP Pavilion - 15-cs3153cl

It ONLY has 1 USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C™ (Data Transfer Only, 5 Gb/s signaling rate) port which does NOT support Alt mode nor Power Delivery. You can NOT use it to

  • Charge your machine
  • Connect to an external monitor with / without hub/dock/adapter

Regards.

Thanks for your help.

So if the port does go bad you say :

  • Connect to an external monitor with / without hub/dock/adapter

Does this mean I could get a hub/dock/adapter, and it will work?

If so, which one should I get?

Thanks again!

George
