My camera stopped working after the latest software updates on 5/24/24.  Any ideas how to restore it?

Hi @CAuli,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially restore your camera functionality on your HP Envy 13.

  • Restart Your Computer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve software glitches. Restart your computer and check if the camera starts working again.
  • Check Device Manager: Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager. Look for the camera device under "Imaging devices" or "Cameras". If you see a yellow exclamation mark next to it, there may be an issue with the driver. Right-click on the camera device and select "Update driver" to see if a newer driver is available.
  • Reinstall the Camera Driver: If updating the driver doesn't work, try uninstalling the camera driver. Right-click on the camera device in Device Manager and select "Uninstall device". Then restart your computer. Windows will automatically reinstall the driver.
  • Check Camera Privacy Settings: In Windows 10, go to Settings > Privacy > Camera, and make sure that "Allow apps to access your camera" is turned on. Also, ensure that individual apps you're trying to use the camera with have permission to access it.
  • Run Hardware Troubleshooter: In Windows 10, you can use the built-in Hardware and Devices troubleshooter to automatically detect and fix issues with hardware devices. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters > Hardware and Devices.
  • Check for Windows Updates: Sometimes, a Windows update may contain fixes for hardware issues. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and click on "Check for updates".
  • Check for HP Updates: HP often releases driver updates and software patches through its support website. Visit the HP support website, enter your laptop model, and download any available updates for your camera or system.
  • System Restore: If the issue started after a recent software update, you can try using System Restore to revert your system to a point before the updates were installed. Search for "System Restore" in the Start menu, and follow the prompts to restore your system.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it's possible that there could be a hardware problem with the camera itself.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
