Elitebook 840 G5
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I have purchased a HP M24f monitor to use with my HP Elitebook 840 G5, however, I cannot get it to work.

I have tried using the HDMI cable, and also tried a VGA cable, however, it will not "plug and play".

I have updated the drivers on the elitebook, tried re-starting etc. but the monitor and the elitebook just wont connect.

Any suggestions?

Hello

it should work without any issue.

Di you try to press  "Windows Key" + P , then select Extend Display ?

or connect the display , via HDMI, power the computer on and immediately close the lid , in this way to output should go directly to external monitor.

Check is M24f monitor has a setting to select the video input port.

bye

It should work as @TryToDoMybest mentioned above. I used to work on my HP 840 G5 machine with external monitor. Now same machine but with HP USB-C G5 dock, I can have up to 3 monitors and single cable solution.

Regards.

Thank you, I have tried the Windows+P but it doesn't "see" the monitor.

I did manage to get it working on one occasion doing as you said i.e. power up the monitor and laptop then close the lid, however, after shutting down the laptop and trying to do it again it didn't work.  So I know it can work which is a good thing.  Hopefully I will find a way to get it working every time... it is a work laptop and I have asked my IT support, the guy I spoke to said he has the same issue with this laptop and it seems that it is a bit of trial and error as it wont just "plug and play".

Thank you for your help 🙂
