Spectre 13
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Recently, I think after a Windows update, I discovered tap-to-click turned on, which i hate. In touchpad settings, there was no way to turn it off. Following online advice, I found that if I downloaded an HP driver, rather than the latest MS one, there was a Synaptic ClickPad button that allowed me to turn off tap. The problem: When I shut off my computer and turn it back on, tapping is interpreted as a click. If I open touchpad settings, I see that tapping us UNchecked (even though tapping actually is maddeningly functioning). If I press OK, the tap function is turned off, but only temporarily. When I restart my computer, it's back again and I have to ok the unchecked tapping every time. I tried a solution I found in a couple places of editing HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTP\Install, changing the value of "DeleteUserSettingsOnUpgrade" to "0." That didn't work. Any suggestions?

I ended up downloading the HP driver I had tried earlier from https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-spectre-13-w000-x360-convertible-pc/12499178. The driver was a November 2018 release, 19.5.10.75 Rev.C. For some reason, this time it seems to be working. So far, I've restarted my laptop a couple times and the "no tap-to-click" setting is sticking.

That didn't help. In fact, it made the problem worse, because with that driver, I can't turn off tap-to-click at all.
