Hi,

i am trying to replace the left and right hinges on my laptop and i want to know what type of screws it take.

Welcome to the HP Support Community. 

There are 4 Phillips PM2.5×5.0 screws, 2 screws in each hinge. 

You may also refer to page# 77 to 83 from the Service Guide for more information.

Is there a difference between PM2.5X5.0 and M2.5X5.0 screws?

They are the same screws, there's no difference. 

Here's more information about the Phillips PM2.5x5.0 screw - 

Length - 5.0 mm

Thread - 2.5 mm

Head diameter - 5.0 mm
